Coast FIRE at 40 (Example)

With 25 years left, the math shifts meaningfully: growth alone has less time to close any remaining gap, so the balance required to fully coast rises faster per year of age than it did in your 20s or early 30s. This is often the point where people either accept they need to keep contributing, or push their target retirement age back a few years to lower the bar.

The example, in one line

Starting balance of $150,000, a 7% expected return,$40,000 in annual retirement spending, and a 4% withdrawal rate, targeting age 65. That puts the Coast FIRE number at$174,660, a gap of $24,660 from these savings.Change anything below to make it yours.
